Roma and Napoli are positioning themselves to prise Tyrique George away from Chelsea before the winter transfer window shuts, with both Serie A clubs stepping up interest in the highly rated winger.
While Fulham have explored the possibility of keeping the England Under-21 international in the Premier League, the momentum is now shifting toward Italy as Tuesday’s deadline approaches.
Chelsea have made George available this month as they reassess their attacking depth and pathways for emerging talent. The 19-year-old has impressed at youth and development levels with his pace, direct running and ability to operate across the frontline, attributes that have not gone unnoticed abroad.
Italian transfer specialist Alfredo Pedullà reports that Napoli and Roma are actively weighing up a move, each conducting internal evaluations to determine the structure and timing of a potential deal.
Roma’s interest is not new. The capital club attempted to sign George during the summer window but were unable to reach an agreement at the time. That admiration has endured, however, and the Giallorossi have revisited the file as they look to inject speed and unpredictability into their wide areas. With squad balance under review, Roma are assessing whether a January approach makes strategic sense or if they should wait until the summer.
Napoli, meanwhile, see George as a profile that fits their long-term recruitment model. The reigning Italian champions have consistently targeted young, high-upside attackers capable of adapting to a possession-based system while offering threat in transition.
George’s willingness to take on defenders and his work rate off the ball are understood to be key factors in Napoli’s deliberations.
For Chelsea, a move abroad could offer George the opportunity for regular senior minutes in a tactically demanding environment, something the club has previously viewed positively for young players’ development.
