Roma and Inter meet in early Serie A showdown

AS Roma host Inter Milan at the Stadio Olimpico di Roma on Saturday 19 September 2026, with both clubs aiming to maintain perfect starts to the Serie A season.

Kick-off is scheduled for 16:00 GMT, with the match forming part of the fifth round of the Italian championship.

In France, the game will be shown on Canal+, while Amazon Prime Video holds the rights in Germany and the United Kingdom. Roma chasing another top-four finish

Roma have not played in the Champions League since 2018, but secured a top-four finish in Gian Piero Gasperini’s first season in charge. The club’s ambition for 2026/27 is to build on that progress and potentially challenge the leading sides for the title.

Their start to the Serie A campaign has been flawless. Roma defeated Fiorentina 4-0, won 4-0 away at Lecce, overcame Atalanta 2-1 and then beat Torino 2-0 away from home on Monday.

Their European campaign began less successfully, however, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Fenerbahce in their opening Champions League fixture.

Recent meetings with Inter provide less encouragement for the hosts. Roma have won only two of their past 10 matches against Inter Milan, losing the other eight.

Champions Inter arrive in form

Inter come to Rome as the established force in Serie A. They won the title in 2024, finished second behind Naples in 2025 and reclaimed the championship last season in dominant fashion, ending the campaign 11 points clear. They also added the Coppa Italia.

That record means Inter are again regarded as the team to beat, and their early results suggest they are ready to handle that expectation. Like Roma, they have taken maximum points from their opening four league matches.

Inter began with a 4-1 victory over Monza, followed that with a 1-0 win at Cagliari, defeated Naples 3-2 and then recorded a 5-3 attacking display against Udinese earlier this week.

Their only setback came in Europe, where they lost 2-1 to Real at Bernabeu despite producing a strong performance.

Both teams therefore arrive with four league wins from four matches, although each has also played in the Champions League this week. That additional workload could become significant late in the game.

This is expected to be a cautious, tactical contest between two unbeaten sides, with neither likely to take unnecessary risks. The most probable outcome is considered to be a draw, with Africafoot predicting a 2-2 finish.
