Rogers Mugisha is on the verge of signing with Greek second division club Apollon Pontou, just days after his departure from Danish first division side AC Horsens. The Uganda international, who mutually terminated his contract with Horsens earlier this week, is set to embark on a new chapter in his career, with an agreement reportedly in place for a three-year deal.
Mugisha, 21, had joined AC Horsens in January but struggled to find regular playing time. Over the course of the 2023/24 season, the forward made just one appearance for the first team and featured twice for the club’s youth side without scoring.
Frustrated by the lack of opportunities, Mugisha and his representatives, All Conti Sports Agency, sought a move that would offer more minutes on the pitch.
Apollon Pontou has emerged as the destination for Mugisha, with both parties reaching an agreement on personal terms. According to sources from Africafoot, the player is expected to complete his medical tests on Sunday before officially signing the contract.
A source from All Conti Sports Agency confirmed the developments, emphasizing that the player prioritized playing time over financial considerations.
“Everything is settled for the negotiations because Rogers has prioritized playing time over money. Apollon Pontou has given us their word, and the boy will go for his medical on Sunday.
This is especially important for the player, as he is eager to show his potential in Europe,” the source told Africafoot.
Mugisha’s move to Greece represents a significant opportunity for the young forward to reignite his career after a challenging spell in Denmark.
Despite his struggles at Horsens, Mugisha remains a promising talent, having come through the ranks of Uganda’s national youth teams.
He has represented his country at the U17, U20, and U23 levels and has earned one senior cap for the Uganda Cranes.
With a market value of €25,000 according to Transfermarkt, Mugisha’s decision to join Apollon Pontou reflects his determination to establish himself in European football.
The Greek club, known for its competitive nature in the second division, will provide the Ugandan with a platform to develop his skills and gain the much-needed playing time that eluded him at Horsens.
As Mugisha prepares to sign with Apollon Pontou, all eyes will be on the young forward as he looks to make an impact in Greece and continue his progression in European football.
The move marks a new beginning for Mugisha, who is eager to demonstrate his abilities and fulfill the potential that has been evident since his early days in Uganda’s youth setup.
