Roger De Sa to combine technical director and head coach roles at Cape Town Spurs

Former South Africa coach Roger De Sa will combine the roles of technical director and first-team head coach at Cape Town Spurs, the club has confirmed.

De Sa was recently unveiled as the new technical director of the ABC Motsepe League side, but his responsibilities will extend beyond the technical department as Spurs prepare for life in South Africa’s third tier.

Spurs chief executive officer Alexi Efstathiou confirmed that De Sa will coach the first team while also overseeing the club’s other teams.

“Yes, Roger De Sa is appointed as a technical director; he also coaches, but his job title is that of a technical director,” Efstathiou told KickOff.

“He will be coaching the first team, and he will also look after the other teams below that.”

De Sa’s immediate focus will be on preparing the first team for the new ABC Motsepe League campaign, with the club currently in pre-season.

The league season is scheduled to begin in September, while Spurs have been training for around two weeks as they build towards their return to competitive action.

“In the ABC Motsepe League, we are only starting in September; we are still busy with pre-season now. We’ve only been training for two weeks now,” Efstathiou said.

“So, Roger De Sa will take the team for now.”

The appointment comes after a difficult 2025/26 campaign for Spurs, who finished bottom of the Motsepe Foundation Championship and were relegated to the ABC Motsepe League.

The drop has also led to a major rebuilding exercise, with several of the club’s key players leaving for Premier Soccer League sides following relegation.

De Sa therefore faces the task of rebuilding the squad while establishing a new structure at a club looking to return to the professional ranks.

His dual role means he will have responsibility for both the day-to-day performance of the first team and the broader development of players across the club.

For Spurs, the immediate objective will be to adapt to life in the ABC Motsepe League and put together a squad capable of challenging for promotion after a season that ended in relegation.
