Rodolfo Aloko has received his first senior call-up to the Benin national team ahead of the upcoming international break, marking a major step in the young midfielder’s career.

The 20-year-old, previously a key figure in the U20 setup, is set to join the senior squad’s training camp in Cotonou on Monday, 26 May.

Head coach Gernot Rohr included Aloko in his latest squad announcement, offering the rising talent an opportunity to represent the Cheetahs of Benin at senior level for the first time.

The selection follows a series of promising performances both domestically and internationally at youth level.

Reacting to the news, Aloko shared a heartfelt message with fans and followers via his official social media account.

“A dream come true. Proud and honored to be selected for my country’s national team for the first time. A huge thank you to everyone who supported me from the start, the work continues,” he wrote, expressing both his gratitude and ambition.

Born in Só-Ava, Aloko began drawing national attention through his performances in the Beninese top flight with Dynamo d’Abomey, where he developed a reputation as one of the nation’s most promising young players.

His impact was further cemented at the 2023 U20 Africa Cup of Nations, where he represented Benin and impressed scouts with his technical ability and attacking instincts.

Currently based in Croatia, Aloko plays for NK Kustošija Zagreb’s youth setup, where he continues to refine his skills in a European environment.

He remains under contract with the Croatian side until June 2029, but growing interest from larger clubs indicates that his stay may not last the full term.

In recent months, Aloko has been linked with a number of high-profile European sides, including PSV Eindhoven, RB Salzburg, Sevilla FC, and Aston Villa.

These links highlight the growing recognition of his potential on the continent and suggest that his senior international debut could further elevate his profile.

Gernot Rohr’s decision to include Aloko in the senior squad reflects a broader vision to blend experienced players with emerging talents as Benin seeks to build a competitive side for upcoming international challenges.

Aloko’s inclusion could also signal a generational shift within the team, offering a platform for young players to establish themselves on the senior stage.

For Aloko, this call-up is not only a personal milestone but also a testament to his progression through Benin’s national ranks.

While his immediate focus will be on contributing to the team during the international window, the broader footballing world will be watching closely to see how he handles this transition to senior football.

As the Cheetahs prepare for their upcoming fixtures, all eyes will be on the training camp in Cotonou, where Aloko is expected to link up with the rest of the squad. His journey from youth international to senior representative is a significant narrative for both the player and Benin’s footballing future.
