Roc Nation launches investigation into unnamed claims involving Vinicius Junior and Yan Diomande

Roc Nation Sports International has issued a strongly worded statement condemning what it described as “false information” about one of its footballers, without identifying the player at the centre of the dispute.

The agency represents Real Madrid and Brazil forward Vinicius Junior and Ivory Coast attacker Yan Diomande. Its decision not to name the player has prompted speculation over whether the statement relates to reports concerning either of its two clients.

Michael Yormark, president of Roc Nation Sports International, said the agency could not ignore reports it believed were inaccurate and damaging.

“We cannot stand idly by while unprofessional and uninformed media outlets publish false and harmful information in order to attract attention,” Yormark said.

He added: “This is unacceptable, particularly when our players are being targeted personally without any basis. It is disturbing and harmful, and it may amount to defamation.”

Yormark concluded by saying that “the media and journalists must take greater responsibility”.

The statement did not clarify whether it referred to Vinicius, whose future has recently been linked with a possible move to Arsenal amid difficulties in negotiations over a new contract with Real Madrid.

The Brazil international has been the subject of reports suggesting he could leave the Spanish club during the summer transfer window, with Arsenal mentioned as a possible destination. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was recently asked about those reports but declined to discuss the situation, saying he would not comment on players who do not belong to his squad.

Arteta’s response did not confirm or deny Arsenal’s interest in Vinicius, while the reports have continued to fuel uncertainty around the forward’s future at Real Madrid.

The other possibility is that the agency was referring to Diomande, whose potential transfer to Real Madrid has become complicated by a legal dispute involving several player agencies.

Spanish newspaper Marca recently reported that the disagreement between the agencies representing Diomande had reached FIFA. The dispute has added complications to negotiations over a possible move to the Spanish club, although Real Madrid are still believed to be interested in signing him.

No name was included in Roc Nation’s statement, leaving the agency’s intended target unclear. English media outlets have tended to interpret the intervention as a response to speculation about Vinicius’ future, particularly because of the recent reports linking him with Arsenal and the uncertainty surrounding his contract at Real Madrid.

However, other reports have not ruled out Diomande being the player in question. The Ivory Coast forward’s potential move to Real Madrid has also attracted considerable attention in recent days because of the legal controversy involving his representation.

Roc Nation’s comments therefore leave open both interpretations. The agency has criticised the reporting surrounding one of its players, but has not disclosed whether the complaint concerns transfer speculation involving Vinicius, the legal dispute connected to Diomande’s proposed move, or both sets of reports.
