Robert Lewandowski emulates Lamine Yamal celebration after Poland hat-trick

Robert Lewandowski marked a historic night for Poland by copying former Barcelona team-mate Lamine Yamal’s trademark celebration after scoring a hat-trick in a 6-0 win over Romania in the Nations League.

The 37-year-old striker scored in the 24th, 47th and 86th minutes as Poland secured a convincing victory, adding three more goals to his international record.

Lewandowski’s latest treble took his total for Poland to 92 goals and made it the seventh hat-trick of his international career. The result also lifted him to sixth in the all-time list of international goalscorers, moving him above several of the game’s most prominent former players.

He is now closing in on Belgium forward Romelu Lukaku, who occupies fifth place with 94 goals. The two-goal gap leaves Lewandowski within reach of another step up the historic rankings.

His performance against Romania was followed by a celebration that paid tribute to Yamal, his former attacking partner at Barcelona. After completing his hat-trick, Lewandowski moved towards the corner flag and placed his hand on it in a recreation of the celebration regularly used by the Spain international.

The gesture quickly drew attention on social media. LiveScore described it as “Lamine Yamal’s corner flag celebration” and called it “a fitting tribute to his former attacking partner at Barcelona”.

Lewandowski therefore ended the match with three goals, a significant new landmark for Poland and a celebration closely associated with Yamal. The evening combined his continued scoring form for the national side with a personal reference to his former club team-mate.
