Robert Glatzel: Wolfsburg linked with move for Hamburg’s German-Eritrean striker

German-Eritrean centre-forward Robert Glatzel of Hamburg is reportedly attracting strong interest from Bundesliga rivals Wolfsburg, with the 32-year-old’s future at the Volksparkstadion increasingly in focus.

Data from Transfermarkt suggests a 73% probability that Wolfsburg will push ahead with a deal for the 1.93m striker, whose current market value is listed at €1.50m. With no public information on a fixed contract expiry in Hamburg, speculation persists that the forward could be allowed to move on for a modest fee, or even run down his terms and edge towards free-agent status if no agreement is reached.

Born in München on 8 January 1994, Glatzel has built a reputation in Germany as a traditional number nine with aerial strength and an instinctive penalty-box presence. Comfortable with both feet and leading the line as a central attacker, he has been a key figure for Hamburg, wearing the number 9 shirt and carrying much of the side’s goalscoring burden in recent campaigns.

His recent displays continue to keep scouts interested. In Hamburg’s latest outing – a tense league fixture against Bundesliga opposition in early June 2026 – Glatzel led the line from the start, working the channels and providing a focal point as his side battled to a tight scoreline. While he did not get on the scoresheet in that match, his hold-up play and movement in and around the box underlined the profile that appeals to Wolfsburg.

Glatzel’s dual nationality (Germany and Eritrea) and experience across the German pyramid add to his appeal as a low-risk, short-term striking option. If the mooted move materialises, a switch to Wolfsburg could offer the veteran forward one more prominent Bundesliga platform to enhance his reputation and extend his top-flight career.
