Riyad Mahrez weighs up Turkey move as Corum FK join race for Algeria star

Riyad Mahrez has emerged as a target for newly promoted Corum FK, with the Turkish club reportedly making an attractive offer for the free-agent winger.

The 35-year-old Algeria international has been without a club since ending his spell with Al Ahli and is attracting interest from several sides during the summer transfer window. Al Wahda, based in Qatar, had already shown an interest in signing him, but Corum FK have now added a new option to Mahrez’s list of potential destinations.

According to L’Equipe, Corum FK hope to make a major statement by bringing in the former Manchester City player as they prepare for their first season in the Super Lig. The club are looking for an experienced name who could make an immediate contribution through his technical quality and knowledge of the game.

Mahrez’s availability without a transfer fee has made him an appealing target. Although his current market value is estimated at €5m by Transfermarkt, his potential new club would not have to pay a fee to secure his services because he is a free agent.

Corum FK’s interest also reflects the club’s desire to repeat the impact of the signing of Cengiz Under. The former Marseille player joined the Turkish side on a free transfer, and Mahrez’s arrival would represent another high-profile recruitment for the newly promoted team.

Mahrez has several alternatives to consider. Saudi Arabian clubs Al Shabab and Al Ettifaq are also in discussions with the winger, Africafoot having previously reported that development exclusively. Al Wahda are understood not to have given up on their attempt to persuade him to continue his career in Qatar.

The former Manchester City player therefore faces a choice between a move to Turkey, a switch to Qatar or a return to Saudi Arabia. No decision has been announced, but the interest from clubs in three countries underlines Mahrez’s continued appeal despite his age and his departure from Al Ahli.

Mahrez joined Manchester City from Leicester City in 2018 and went on to win major domestic and European honours with the English club before moving to Al Ahli. His next destination remains uncertain, with Corum FK’s proposal adding a fresh dimension to the ongoing negotiations.
