Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez is racing against time to be fit for Al Ahli’s upcoming Saudi Professional League fixture against Al Kholood this Saturday.
The club’s medical team is working urgently to get him ready for the crucial match at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Sports City Stadium in Jeddah.
Mahrez missed Al Ahli’s recent 3-1 loss to Al-Shabab due to a muscle strain. His absence was felt as Al-Raqi struggled in attack. Now, with only a few rounds left in the Roshan League, his return could be vital in keeping the club in the top-four race.
According to Saudi newspaper, head coach Matthias Jaissle is awaiting a full medical update before deciding on Mahrez’s involvement when training resumes on Wednesday.
Teammate Galeno is also in doubt, recovering from a thigh muscle tear he suffered in the AFC Elite League final against Kawasaki Frontale.
Al Ahli currently sit fourth in the table with 61 points, boasting 19 wins, 4 draws, and 8 losses, still firmly in the hunt for a strong season finish.
