Rio Ngumoha makes Anfield history with record-breaking Premier League goal

Liverpool starlet Rio Ngumoha has written his name into the club’s history books, becoming the youngest player ever to score at Anfield in a Premier League match during the Reds’ win over Fulham.

The 17-year-old winger, who struck at 17 years and 225 days, opened the scoring with a composed finish in front of a roaring Kop, turning a special night into a landmark moment.

Ngumoha’s goal eclipsed Raheem Sterling’s previous club record, set at 17 years and 317 days back in October 2012. Jamie Carragher now sits third on the list, having netted his first league goal at Anfield aged 18 years and 356 days in January 1997. For a teenager still at the very start of his journey, it underlines just how highly Liverpool rate their academy graduate.

His professional breakthrough came on 11 January 2025, when Ngumoha made his senior debut for Liverpool, starting in a 4–0 FA Cup third-round victory over Accrington Stanley at Anfield. At 16 years and 135 days old, he became the youngest player to start a first-team match for the club and the youngest ever to feature in an FA Cup game for Liverpool, completing three successful dribbles in a lively 63-minute display.
