Riga land Nigeria full-back Nor Maviram in Latvian switch

Nigeria left-back Nor Maviram has joined Riga from Portuguese club Tondela, completing a move to the Latvian Virsliga side.

The 25-year-old defender arrives at Riga after spending the previous two years with Tondela, having joined the Portuguese club from Vilaverdense in July 2024. His move to Latvia was completed on 16 August 2026.

Maviram was part of Tondela’s title-winning campaign in Portugal’s second tier in 2025, when the club finished as champions of Liga Portugal 2. He leaves after his spell with a side that had provided the latest stage of his career in Portuguese football.

The defender began his senior career with Gee-Lec before moving to Vizela in 2020. He later spent time with Vizela’s under-23 side and Vilaverdense, including a loan spell at Vilaverdense during the 2022-23 season. He joined Vilaverdense permanently in July 2023 before switching to Tondela the following year.

Born in Jos, Nigeria, Maviram stands 1.78m tall and is naturally left-footed. His main position is left-back, giving Riga a defender who operates on the left side of the back line.

Maviram’s arrival continues his career move away from Portugal, where he developed through several clubs after leaving FC Porto’s under-19 setup. He also spent the 2020-21 season on loan at Pedras Salgadas from Vizela before returning to the club.

Riga compete in Latvia’s top division, the Virsliga, while Tondela play in Liga Portugal 2. The transfer therefore takes Maviram into a new domestic competition after more than six years playing in Portugal.

His career has included appearances across Portugal’s professional and development structures, with his most significant team achievement coming during Tondela’s 2025 second-tier championship season. He now begins the next chapter of his club career in Latvia.
