Ridle Baku’s Leipzig future secured by games clause

RB Leipzig can keep Ridle Baku beyond 2027 thanks to a performance-based clause in his contract that hinges on his playing time.

According to reports, the versatile right-back’s deal, currently running until 2027, includes an appearance-related option for an automatic extension.

If Baku manages between 30 and 35 competitive appearances for Leipzig next season, the contract will renew itself without further negotiation.

Even in the current campaign, without European football, the 28-year-old is already in that range: he has featured 34 times in the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal, starting 31 of those matches. That consistency underlines his status as an important figure in the squad.

Looking ahead, Leipzig will add at least eight Champions League fixtures to their schedule next season, which should further boost Baku’s chances of hitting the required appearance mark again. As long as his sporting role does not diminish significantly, there is little reason for him to worry about his long-term future with the Saxony club.
