Richarlison questions Tottenham omission after De Zerbi leaves him out of Liverpool tie

Richarlison has publicly questioned his omission from Tottenham’s squad for their English League Cup match against Liverpool, further increasing the uncertainty surrounding his future at the club.

The Brazil forward was left out of Roberto De Zerbi’s Premier League squad and has now also been excluded from the travelling party for the match at Liverpool. The decision has come at a difficult time for Tottenham, who have failed to score in their opening four Premier League matches.

Richarlison finished last season as Tottenham’s leading scorer, with 12 goals, and started their opening game against Brentford. However, his position changed quickly and he was subsequently asked to find a new club during the summer transfer window.

The striker had the opportunity to return to the squad for the English League Cup, but De Zerbi chose not to select him for the meeting with Liverpool. Richarlison then made his frustration clear on social media after the manager’s comments about his omission were circulated.

He initially responded to an Instagram post reporting De Zerbi’s remarks with a crying emoji. Richarlison later shared the post on his own account and added the brief comment: “Why?”

His public reaction highlights the tension surrounding his situation at Tottenham. The 28-year-old has not yet secured a move away from the club, despite several attempts to find him a new team during the summer.

There were efforts to transfer Richarlison to a number of clubs, including Everton, Trabzonspor and Vasco da Gama, but none of those moves was completed. He has therefore remained at Tottenham, where his position has become increasingly complicated.

According to the Daily Mail, Richarlison is currently outside De Zerbi’s plans, despite being available for selection in the English League Cup. That has made his absence from the squad to face Liverpool particularly notable.

Tottenham urgently need attacking solutions after failing to find the net in their first four Premier League matches. The situation places additional pressure on De Zerbi, who must address the team’s lack of goals while also managing the future of the player who led their scoring last season.

The relationship between Richarlison and the Italian manager now appears to have entered a more strained phase, with the forward’s dissatisfaction moving from behind the scenes into the public domain. It remains to be seen whether the two sides can resolve the dispute or whether the continued exclusion will lead to the end of Richarlison’s time at Tottenham.
