Zamalek SC head coach, Jose Peseiro, has reportedly not been paid for several months, according to sources in Egypt.
The 65-year-old, who previously managed Nigeria, has faced uncertainty regarding his future at the club following disappointing results in the Egyptian Premier League and a recent elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup after a loss to South Africa’s Stellenbosch.
Peseiro, who signed an 18-month contract with Zamalek in February, was expected to remain with the club until the end of the next season.
However, amidst growing speculation about his departure, reports from Mwlana.com reveal that the coach has not received his salaries for March, April, and May.
The Portuguese coach is reportedly earning $70,000 per month, meaning Zamalek owes him a total of $210,000.
If the club decides to terminate his contract, Peseiro is said to be considering demanding his unpaid salary, as he is unwilling to leave voluntarily.
With Peseiro’s departure seemingly imminent, Pitso Mosimane is being strongly linked with the role of Zamalek’s new head coach.
