Congolese defender, Chancel Mbemba is reportedly taking home a whopping €270,000 per month at French Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille although he has not played a single match in the 2024/25 football season.
This is per information gathered from a financial report from L’Équipe.
Last summer, Marseille aggressively trimmed its wage bill, offloading high-earning players such as Jordan Veretout, Jonathan Clauss, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The move was part of efforts to build a more competitive squad. However, not all departures went as planned.
Chancel Mbemba, who was part of the players to be transferred did not move.
Though he has since returned to first-team training due to legal considerations, head coach Roberto De Zerbi has made it clear that the defender is not part of his plans. Mbemba has yet to be included in a matchday squad for Marseille but has continued to feature for his national team.
Checks have revealed that the French club will offload Chancel Mbemba immediately the summer transfer window opens at the end of the 2024/25 football season.
