Restes transfer: Marseille test Toulouse resolve with opening proposal

Olympique de Marseille have made an initial approach for Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaume Restes, offering a paid loan with an option to buy as they begin discussions over a potential move.

The proposed package could be worth about 10m euros in total, but that structure does not currently meet Toulouse’s expectations, according to Foot Mercato. Toulouse believe Marseille’s offer falls short of the value they place on their young goalkeeper.

Restes is understood to be interested in joining Marseille, a preference that could influence the next stage of negotiations between the clubs. His willingness to move to the Stade Velodrome may give the Ligue 1 side encouragement as they seek to reach an agreement with Toulouse.

The 20-year-old remains under contract with Toulouse until June 2028 and is considered to have considerable room for further development. His market value is currently estimated at 18m euros by Transfermarkt, a figure that is likely to be central to the discussions between Marseille and the club from Haute-Garonne.

Marseille’s opening proposal would therefore represent a deal below that valuation, although the inclusion of a future purchase option could allow the clubs to structure the transfer over a longer period. Toulouse’s current position indicates that the club is not prepared to accept the offer in its present form.

Restes, who is of Ivorian origin, has already established himself as an important young goalkeeper for Toulouse. His long-term contract gives the club a strong negotiating position, while Marseille’s interest reflects their desire to strengthen their squad with a player who still has significant potential to improve.
