Representing Ghana at World Cup greatest honour of my life – Marvin Senaya
Ghana defender Marvin Senaya has broken his silence following the Black Stars’ elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the opportunity to represent his country on the global stage as a tremendous honor.
The AJ Auxerre right-back, who chose to play for Ghana over Togo, expressed immense gratitude for the journey despite the heartbreak of their exit.
“Wearing the colours of Ghana at the World Cup is a tremendous honour,” Senaya shared. “Behind this jersey, there is a history, roots, a culture, and an entire people that I am proud to represent.”
He later added on social media that while the tournament did not end with the result they wanted, he remains incredibly proud of the character and mentality the group displayed.
Ghana’s tournament campaign came to an end following a narrow 1-0 defeat against Colombia at the Kansas City Stadium in the Round of 32.
Head coach Carlos Queiroz highlighted Senaya’s forced substitution due to an injury in the 13th minute as the tactical turning point, which disrupted the team’s defensive organization and allowed Jhon Arias to score the decisive goal just moments later.
Despite the early knockout, Senaya emerged as one of the standout individual performers of the competition.
The 25-year-old was named in Opta’s Group Stage Best XI, having led the entire World Cup tackling charts with 18 attempted challenges and 11 won, including a highly praised defensive display against England.
