Ali Maaloul has officially retired from international football, donning the jersey of the Tunisian national team, as reported by Tunisian channel “Al-Hiwar.”
This decision comes just one day after the Eagles of Carthage bid farewell to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations at the group stage.
Maaloul played in a single match as a starter against Namibia, a game in which the Tunisian team suffered a 1-0 defeat.
He was also on the substitutes’ bench in the matches against Mali and South Africa.
In his international career, Maaloul participated in a total of 89 matches, scoring three goals and providing 11 assists.
He represented Tunisia in the Africa Cup of Nations in 2015, 2017, 2021, and 2023, as well as in the FIFA World Cup in 2018 and 2022.
Additionally, he took part in the 2021 Arab Cup.
The 34-year-old left-back, currently playing for Al Ahly, will see his contract with the Red Devils conclude at the end of the current season.
Maaloul’s retirement marks the end of an era for one of Tunisia’s football stalwarts, leaving a significant legacy on the international stage.
