Marrakech, Morocco — The major stadium in the vibrant city of Marrakech, along with its training fields, has recently undergone maintenance work in preparation for hosting national and African football team matches following an upcoming hiatus.
The refurbishment aims to ensure the facilities are in optimal condition for the impending African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2024, coinciding with the national team’s participation in the prestigious tournament.
Over the past two days, extensive maintenance efforts have been initiated to enhance the playing surface of the grand stadium and its associated training grounds.
The objective is to guarantee that these venues are fully prepared to host matches for both domestic and international teams.
The company overseeing the maintenance work has set January 16 as the targeted completion date for the renovations.
The enhancements include reinforcing the playing surface with weather-resistant pellets designed to withstand the cold winter conditions.
The grand stadium is poised to reopen in conjunction with a match featuring local team Kawkab Marrakech against Chabab Benkri, marking the commencement of the 16th round of the second division championship.
This proactive maintenance initiative aligns with the broader strategy of ensuring top-notch sporting facilities for national and international events.
