Paul-Georges Ntep Reflects on Early Lessons Amid Liverpool Interest
As speculation grows over a possible move to Liverpool, French winger Paul-Georges Ntep has opened up about the challenges and lessons from his early career at AJ Auxerre.
Speaking to Le Journal du Dimanche (JDD), the 22-year-old, who has enjoyed a standout season, revealed how a rapid rise through the youth ranks once threatened to derail his progress.
“When I arrived at Auxerre in 2009, I was greedy,” Ntep admitted. “In one year, I went from the U18s to the first team and was called up to the French U18 national side. I wanted more. I got a big head.”
That early burst of success, he says, came at a cost. “My performances suffered. But it helped me. I learned to be patient.”
Ntep also revealed he turned down lucrative offers early in his career, including a €250,000-a-month deal from an unnamed Austrian club and an opportunity to join Queens Park Rangers. “At 20, I had time,” he said.
Now, with maturity and form on his side, Ntep looks set for a major step forward. The France U21 international has scored 9 goals in 33 appearances this season, drawing interest from several top European clubs.
Liverpool are reportedly among those monitoring the pacey left winger, whose combination of flair, strength, and improved discipline has made him one of the most exciting young French prospects.
A move this summer looks likely—but wherever he goes, Ntep insists he’s better prepared for the spotlight.
