Ibrahim Koné Training with Stade Rennais Amid Goalkeeper Uncertainty
Former Boulogne-sur-Mer goalkeeper Ibrahim Koné has joined Stade Rennais in training as the club faces ongoing challenges in securing new goalkeeping options ahead of the new season.
The 24-year-old Ivorian shot-stopper, currently without a club after his contract with Boulogne-sur-Mer ended in the off-season, has been invited by Rennes head coach Philippe Montanier to train with the first team. This move comes as Rennes await the finalisation of the transfer of Danijel Petkovic, a 21-year-old Montenegrin goalkeeper, whose arrival has been delayed due to administrative hurdles.
While Rennes have not confirmed any plans to sign Koné permanently, the club appears keen to use his services as a temporary solution during this period of uncertainty.
Koné brings valuable experience, having featured in three Ligue 1 matches during the 2009-2010 season, and his presence provides additional depth to the Rennes squad at a crucial time.
The club hopes to resolve the Petkovic transfer soon but in the meantime, Koné’s training involvement signals a pragmatic approach by Rennes management to safeguard their goalkeeping options.
