French coach Hervé Renard has become a focal point of attention during the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, with four national teams expressing interest in securing his services.
Renard, the coach of the French women’s national football team, garnered significant interest upon his arrival in Abidjan, the capital of Ivory Coast, where he was present to observe several matches of the continental championship.
The Ivorian Football Federation engaged in negotiations with Renard to temporarily lead the Elephants following the dismissal of compatriot Gian Gjakie after a 0-4 loss to Equatorial Guinea in the group stage.
However, the French Football Federation categorically rejected this idea, as reported by Radio Monte Carlo earlier.
The French coach Hervé Renard has entered the pool of candidates for coaching the Algerian national team, succeeding Djamel Belmadi, according to French newspaper “L’Équipe.”
Additionally, he has come under scrutiny from the Egyptian Football Association, which is considering him as a replacement for Portuguese coach Rui Vitória, as reported by “Al-Masry Al-Youm” on Saturday.
Similarly, the Ghana Football Association is also seeking to secure the services of the French coach.
Frederick Acheampong, a member of the Ghana Football Association, stated in comments reported by “Modern Ghana” that the Ghanaian association admires the significant work done by French coach Hervé Renard.
However, he noted that financial constraints might hinder the possibility of securing his services.
Renard’s contract with the French women’s national team extends until August, having taken over in March 2023 following his departure from the Saudi Arabian national team.
Renard achieved notable success with Saudi Arabia, notably defeating Argentina 2-1 in the group stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Renowned for his extensive experience in African football, Renard secured two African Cup of Nations titles with Zambia in 2012 and Ivory Coast in 2015.
His coaching career also includes stints with the national teams of Morocco and Angola, and he served as an assistant coach for the Ghana national team early in his coaching journey.
