Remo Stars coach Tiago Conde tips Mamelodi Sundowns to win CAF Champions League

Head coach of Remo Stars Tiago Conde has named Mamelodi Sundowns among the favourites to annex the CAF Champions League this season.

The South African outfit triumphed over the Nigeria champions to secure a place in the group stages of the competition. Peter Shalulile and Nuno Santos scored for Sundowns in the return clash, held at Loftus Versveld as they progressed 7-1 on aggregate.

Having fell to the South African outfit, the Portuguese coach has thrown hos weigfht behind Sundowns to make a meaningful impact this season.

“I’m expecting Mamelodi Sundowns will be among three or four teams with the capacity to win this competition,” Conde said.

“I cannot see more teams with the capacity that they have. They have a mix of Brazilian, South African and Portuguese players and a Portuguese coach too,” he added.

While Conde predicts Sundowns can win the continental premier competition, the Stars mentor expressed doubt if they can successfully defend the domestic league trophy.

“I don’t know if they will win the national competition, but in the CAF competition, I am expecting that they can be champions. I am sure Mamelodi will be one of the teams in the semi-finals.”

The draw for the CAF Champions League group stages has been scheduled for Monday, November 3, 2025.
