Stade de Reims Begin Pre-Season Training at New Facility Under Jean-Luc Vasseur
Stade de Reims kicked off their pre-season training on Wednesday at their brand-new training centre, signalling a fresh start under newly appointed coach Jean-Luc Vasseur. The former Créteil manager takes charge following the departure of Hubert Fournier, who left the club to join Lyon.
Almost the entire squad was present for the first session, with a few notable absences due to injury and international duty. Algerian defender Aissa Mandi, returning from the World Cup in Brazil where his team was eliminated by Germany in the round of 16, did not join the training. Fellow defenders Anthony Weber and midfielder Alexi Peuget were also missing due to injury.
Vasseur, who takes over a team that finished 11th in Ligue 1 last season, was optimistic about the future and the club’s new facilities. “The club continues to grow,” he said. “The facilities are top-notch; there are few like them in France. It’s up to us to get up to speed. I’m not here to revolutionize Stade de Reims. I’m going to work on continuity and try to improve what can be improved.”
The new coach’s approach is clearly one of building on existing foundations rather than radical overhaul. Reims aim to improve on their mid-table finish last season and establish themselves more firmly in Ligue 1.
Goalkeeper Kossi Agassa and his teammates will soon depart for a training camp in Châtel, located in the French Alps region of Savoie. The camp, set to run until July 12, will be a crucial period of preparation ahead of their first pre-season friendly against Swiss top-flight club Young Boys Bern, scheduled for July 11.
Reims’ new training centre, a modern facility that the club proudly highlights as among the best in France, represents a significant investment aimed at supporting the team’s development and success.
As Reims embark on this new chapter, the focus will be on steady progress under Vasseur’s guidance, combining experienced leadership with the club’s growing infrastructure to push for improved performances in the upcoming Ligue 1 season.
