Refereeing controversy overshadows Wydad’s Throne Cup victory against Raja Beni Mellal

Wydad AC booked their place in the Round of 16 of the Throne Cup after defeating Raja Beni Mellal on Sunday in a tense and controversial encounter at Mohammed V Stadium.

The Casablanca giants secured qualification thanks to second-half goals from Noureddine Amrabat and Hamza Musaddiq in a match heavily dominated by refereeing debates and contentious decisions.

After a difficult first half for both sides, Wydad finally broke the deadlock in the 64th minute when Amrabat converted from the penalty spot to give the Red Team the advantage.

As Raja Beni Mellal pushed forward in search of an equaliser, Wydad managed to seal the victory deep into stoppage time through Hamza Musaddiq, who scored the decisive second goal in the final seconds of the encounter.

Refereeing decisions spark controversy

Despite the result, much of the post-match discussion focused on the officiating decisions that shaped the game.

Despite their spirited resistance, the lower-division side could not prevent Wydad from advancing to the next round of the competition.
