Red Star FC consider Udinese defender Leonardo Buta for Ligue 2 move

Portuguese-Angolan left-back Leonardo Buta is being linked with a move from Udinese to Red Star FC in Ligue 2.

The 24-year-old remains under contract with the Serie A club until 30 June 2027, with the reported interest emerging on 19 August. No transfer fee or agreement has been reported.

Buta has yet to feature for Udinese in the 2026-27 campaign, recording no appearances in the Italian Cup. He returned to the club at the end of June after spending the second half of last season on loan at Rio Ave.

That spell in Portugal followed an earlier temporary move to Spain, where Buta played for SD Eibar during the first half of the 2025-26 season. He joined Udinese from Moreirense on 1 July 2025, briefly returning to Portugal before heading out on loan.

The left-back began his senior career with Braga B and moved to Udinese in June 2022 for a reported €2m. He subsequently spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Gil Vicente before joining Moreirense for the following campaign.

Buta, who was born in Agueda and stands 1.82m tall, is valued at €1m. The proposed switch to Red Star would take him from Italy’s top flight to France’s second tier, but he currently remains an Udinese player with two years left on his contract.
