Real Zaragoza has confirmed that the Appeals Committee has rejected the club’s appeal over the red card shown to Moroccan defender Jawad El Yamiq in their recent clash with SD Eibar, resulting in a one-match suspension.

Following series of deliberation, the Appeals Committee has upheld the original ruling by the Disciplinary Committee. Real Zaragoza has since taken the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), seeking precautionary measures that would allow El Yamiq to feature in the upcoming match against Cultural Leonesa.

The Spanish outfit pursued multiple consultations and follow-ups with the relevant authorities after the Eibar match, arguing that the red card was a “clear error” and that the resulting suspension was unjust.

Real Zaragoza added that it will continue to defend what it considers its legitimate rights before CAS, highlighting both the legal and sporting principles at stake, and framing the appeal as a defense of football values, as well as the interests of the club and its supporters.

The match last Saturday in the 25th round of the Spanish Segunda División saw an eventful night for El Yamiq. He opened the scoring for Zaragoza in the 26th minute with a powerful header, before unfortunately scoring an own goal in the 56th minute. Despite this, his overall performance remained a standout contribution to the team’s defensive display.
