Real Zaragoza have announced their intention to submit an official appeal to the Competition Committee, seeking the cancellation of the red card shown to Moroccan defender Jawad El Yamiq during their Spanish Segunda División clash against Eibar in the 25th round of the league.
In an official statement, the club confirmed that it will file a comprehensive appeal supported by all relevant documents and photographic evidence, expressing hope that justice will be served and the dismissal overturned.
Real Zaragoza described the decision to send off El Yamiq as unfair following the encounter at the Ibercaja Stadium.
The match itself saw El Yamiq deliver one of his most eventful performances of the season, playing a central role in several key moments and producing a strong overall display.
The Moroccan defender opened the scoring for Real Zaragoza in the 26th minute with a powerful header that found the back of Eibar’s net, giving his side an early advantage.
However, the game took an unfortunate twist in the 56th minute when El Yamiq accidentally turned the ball into his own net, allowing Eibar to draw level. Despite the own goal, his defensive contribution throughout the match remained largely positive.
The drama continued into the closing stages, when the referee issued a red card to El Yamiq following a challenge on an Eibar player.
The decision sparked strong protests from Real Zaragoza, who viewed the dismissal as excessively harsh and detrimental to the player after an otherwise committed performance.
