Real Sociedad eye Freiburg’s goalkeeper Noah Atubolu
Real Sociedad are exploring a move for Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu to bolster their goalkeeping options, according to Mundo Deportivo via fussballtransfers.com.
The Basque club is actively assessing candidates after recent squad changes at Freiburg, where newcomer Mio Backhaus has shifted the dynamic around the young German keeper.
Head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo, who arrived in December 2025, prefers German goalkeepers and has Atubolu high on his list. Other targets include Finn Dahmen, Bernd Leno, and Steven Benda, recently at Feyenoord.
Noah Atubolu’s current market value according to Transfermarkt is €25,000,000. Atubolu joined the SC Freiburg first team as a backup option during the 2022/23 season, following his promotion from the club’s reserve side. His professional debut came in the DFB-Pokal on 19 October 2022 against FC St. Pauli, where he played the full match in a 2-1 extra-time victory.
The push comes as first-choice Alex Remiro could depart this summer. Reports indicate Napoli are in talks with Remiro, even considering a swap involving Alex Meret, though Meret reportedly resists moving to San Sebastián.
Atubolu’s potential arrival would address a key weakness while aligning with Matarazzo’s tactical vision. With the transfer window opening, all eyes are on whether Sociedad can secure a long-term successor to Remiro before the season begins.
