Real Murcia have entered advanced negotiations with representatives of Mario Balotelli as the Spanish club seeks to pull off a shock signing ahead of the new season.
Balotelli, who has Ghanaian roots but represented Italy at international level, is currently on the books of Genoa but looks poised to depart after making just six appearances last season.
His limited game time has fuelled speculation over his future, with Real Murcia emerging as an unexpected destination.
According to The Sun, Murcia president Felipe Moreno recently met with Balotelli’s agents in Madrid to explore the possibility of a deal.
Talks are now progressing with the club’s sporting director Asier Goiria leading discussions on a potential contract for the 34-year-old striker.
Murcia, once a top-flight side, now compete in the third tier of Spanish football — the Primera Federación Group 2.
Despite their current status, they retain a passionate fan base, regularly drawing crowds of over 25,000 to the Estadio Nueva Condomina.
The club believes Balotelli’s arrival could provide both a significant commercial boost and valuable on-field experience as they push for promotion.
Balotelli, a former star for Manchester City, AC Milan, and Inter Milan, has had a career marked by flashes of brilliance and off-field controversies.
A move to Murcia would mark another unexpected chapter for the forward, who has also featured for clubs in France, Turkey, and Switzerland in recent years.
Real Murcia are said to be optimistic about their chances of securing the deal, though financial and performance clauses are likely to play a key role in negotiations.
