Real Madrid win race to sign Nigerian prodigy Victory Okorie
Spanish giants Real Madrid have reportedly secured the signing of highly rated young defender Victory Okorie, beating several European clubs in the race for the promising prospect.
According to reports from Marca, the 16-year-old Spanish-born player of Nigerian descent has already signed a contract with Real Madrid, bringing an end to strong interest from other major clubs across Europe.
German powerhouse FC Bayern Munich had closely monitored the physically imposing left back for some time but ultimately missed out on the deal. The Bundesliga side had identified Okorie as a potential long-term defensive prospect, but were unable to convince him to move to Germany.
The young defender, who currently represents the youth setup of Deportivo Alavés, is widely regarded as one of the most promising talents in his age group in Spain. His performances have also earned him recognition with the Spain national under-16 football team.
Interest in Okorie extended beyond Bayern Munich, with Borussia Dortmund, Atlético Madrid and FC Barcelona also reportedly keeping close tabs on the teenager.
However, Real Madrid ultimately moved decisively to secure the services of the highly regarded youngster, strengthening their youth ranks with one of the most sought-after defensive talents in Spanish football.
