Zinedine Zidane Faces Uncertainty Over Real Madrid Castilla Coaching Role
Zinedine Zidane, recently appointed as coach of Real Madrid’s reserve team Castilla, may soon be forced to step down due to coaching qualification issues. The former assistant to Carlo Ancelotti and ex-international manager took charge of his first match last weekend, but his tenure could be short-lived.
According to the National Coach Training Centre (Cenafe), Zidane does not currently hold the necessary coaching licence required to manage a team competing in Spain’s third division. Cenafe issued a statement clarifying the situation.
“According to all reports, Zidane has a level 2 coaching qualification. This qualification does not allow him to coach Castilla, but Mr. Zidane is coaching that team,” the statement read. “This clearly constitutes a violation of Article 104.1 of the Spanish Football Federation’s Disciplinary Code.”
The regulations stipulate that coaches managing teams at this level must hold specific licences to ensure they meet professional standards. Zidane’s current credentials fall short of these requirements, placing Real Madrid and the coach in a precarious position.
Whether Zidane will step down or seek to upgrade his coaching qualifications remains unclear. The situation has sparked debate over whether exceptions might be made given his experience and status within the club.
Real Madrid is expected to provide an update soon as they navigate the regulatory complications surrounding their promising young coach.
