Real Madrid track Armoni Brooks after ASVEL reversal over two-year deal

Armoni Brooks has become available in the European basketball transfer market after ASVEL’s financial problems forced the French club to reconsider an agreement with the American three-point specialist, despite having signed him to a two-year contract worth more than two million euros per season.

The 28-year-old, who stands 1.94m tall, is now expected to leave ASVEL after the club endured a difficult campaign in the EuroLeague. The French side recorded only eight victories and suffered 30 defeats during a disastrous season, prompting major changes to its roster.

Brooks is understood to be the next player in line to depart, following Francisco. The guard, who comes from Waco, Texas, has attracted several offers as uncertainty continues to surround his position at the club.

According to reports in Serbia, Partizan Belgrade have withdrawn from the race to sign Brooks. The competition for his signature is now reported to be between Real Madrid, Red Star Belgrade and Spanish club Valencia Basket.

Real Madrid are continuing a major rebuilding operation after completing their first trophyless season in 15 years. The Spanish club still needs to strengthen its squad in several areas ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

The Madrid side have already added Jaime Pradilla, Mikael Jantunen and Timothy Luwawu-Cabarrot. Their current squad also includes Facundo Campazzo, Andres Feliz, Sergio Llull, Theo Maledon, Alberto Abalde, Gabriel Procida, Gabriel Deck, Chuma Okeke, injured player Usman Garuba and Eddie Tavares.

Brooks has consequently returned to the club’s list of potential targets. His profile is considered a strong match for what Real Madrid require: an experienced offensive wing with extensive knowledge of European basketball and the ability to influence games from beyond the three-point line.

The situation at ASVEL has reopened the possibility of a move, with the French club’s financial difficulties creating uncertainty around a player who had appeared to be set for a long-term spell in Villeurbanne.

Real Madrid’s interest comes as the club seeks to reshape its team following a season without silverware. While several additions have already been made, Brooks could offer another experienced option on the perimeter and provide additional shooting in a squad that is being rebuilt for the next European campaign.
