Real Madrid retain LaLiga committee seat amid renewed tensions with Javier Tebas

Real Madrid will remain on LaLiga’s Delegate Committee for the next two years, extending the club’s involvement in a key league body as its dispute with president Javier Tebas continues.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid are one of six top-flight clubs elected to the committee, which also includes six teams from the second division. The club returned to the body in 2024 after a four-year absence, with support from Real Sociedad and Real Valladolid.

This time, Real Madrid have retained their place with backing from Real Sociedad and Athletic Club.

The election comes against the backdrop of an increasingly strained relationship between Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and Tebas. Their dispute has resurfaced in recent weeks following the Madrid derby and later intensified after a complaint was submitted to UEFA over the Negreira case. UEFA confirmed the complaint a week ago.

The committee is responsible for requesting general assembly meetings and ensuring that decisions approved by the general assembly and the relevant division boards are properly implemented.

It can also propose the appointment, removal and re-election of external auditors to the general assembly, following a recommendation from the Audit and Internal Control Committee.

Among its other powers are negotiating and, where appropriate, approving agreements with the Royal Spanish Football Federation, UEFA and public institutions. Such agreements remain subject to ratification by the extraordinary general assembly under Article 11(f) of LaLiga’s statutes.

The committee may deal with urgent matters raised by members concerning issues approved by a competent body, while observing the organisational hierarchy and all legal and regulatory requirements. It can also propose the opening of disciplinary proceedings.

It is required to produce reports under the legislation in force, although those duties may be delegated to the legal director when appropriate. Any such delegation must be approved by the majority required to make decisions on the matter concerned.

The committee also prepares LaLiga’s budget, its annual report, profit and loss accounts and the final budget settlement. It recommends the rules and criteria to be followed by LaLiga members when drawing up their own budgets.

In addition, it appoints members of the Audit and Internal Control Committee on the recommendation of the president.

Real Madrid are regularly represented on the committee by the club’s general manager, Jose Angel Sanchez. The club has frequently used the forum to voice its opposition to, and reject, proposals put forward by LaLiga.
