Real Madrid prospect Thiago Pitarch yet to decide between Spain and Morocco

Thiago Pitarch has revealed that he is still weighing his international future, confirming that he has not yet chosen whether to represent Spain or Morocco at the senior level.

The talented 18-year-old midfielder addressed the growing speculation during an interview with beIN SPORTS on March 12, explaining that he has yet to make a final decision despite increasing interest from both national federations.

“I haven’t made my final decision yet. Things are great with Spain, but I’ll make a decision soon,” he said.

Born in Fuenlabrada, Spain, Pitarch holds dual nationality and is also eligible to represent Morocco through his family roots, as his grandfather was born in Al Hoceima. The rising star has already featured for Spain at youth level with the U19 and U20 sides and took part in the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, where Spain advanced to the quarterfinals.

Pitarch also highlighted the influence of his Real Madrid teammate Brahim Díaz, who has played a supportive role as the youngster begins to establish himself.

“Brahim talked to me a lot about this topic. He feels great happiness playing for the Moroccan national team, and he gives me a lot of support in the dressing room.”

The teenager’s rapid progress at Real Madrid has further intensified attention on his international future. Under the guidance of Álvaro Arbeloa, Pitarch has enjoyed a breakthrough period in early 2026.

He recently made his UEFA Champions League debut against S.L. Benfica and reached another milestone on March 11 when he became the youngest Spanish player to start a Champions League knockout match for Real Madrid at 18 years and 220 days during the round of 16 clash against Manchester City F.C..

With his profile continuing to rise, both Spain and Morocco are closely monitoring the situation. Spain is reportedly considering including him in its upcoming U21 squad announcement on March 20, while Morocco hopes the promising midfielder could follow a similar path to Brahim Díaz by committing his international future to the Atlas Lions.
