Real Madrid prospect Rachad Fettal opts to represent Spain over Morocco
Real Madrid youngster Rachad Fettal has chosen to commit his international future to Spain, turning down an invitation to play for Morocco’s U-20 side.
Fettal, who joined Los Blancos from Almería during the summer transfer window, currently features for Real Madrid Castilla as he works toward breaking into the senior squad.
The striker previously represented Morocco at youth level, and reports had suggested he was in line for a call-up to Mohamed Ouahbi’s squad for next month’s FIFA U-20 World Cup.
However, the Moroccan coach confirmed that Fettal declined the approach, instead opting to pledge allegiance to Spain.
“Rachad is a very talented player with excellent goal-scoring instincts. He has demonstrated remarkable qualities in some matches, but like every young player, he hasn’t always maintained the same level,” Ouahbi said.
“We tried to contact him and invite him several times, but he ultimately chose to represent Spain. It’s a personal choice that we respect.”
“We never force any player to join the national team. The priority goes to those who truly feel a connection to Morocco. We have players capable of filling any gap, and we will continue to support all Moroccan talents.”
