Real Madrid monitor Bayer Leverkusen defender Jarell Quansah

Real Madrid are closely monitoring Bayer Leverkusen defender Jarell Quansah as they plan a defensive rebuild for next summer.

The 23-year-old has impressed since joining Leverkusen from Liverpool in 2025 for around €30 million, establishing himself as a regular in the Bundesliga side.

Madrid are expected to pursue at least two defenders at the end of the season, and Quansah’s development has put him firmly on their radar, according to Bild. His versatility is an added attraction: while naturally a centre-back, he can also operate at right-back.

Quansah has strengthened his profile further through international recognition. He recently started for England at right-back in their 3-2 defeat to Spain, highlighting the adaptability that has made him attractive to leading European clubs. His Leverkusen contract runs until 2030, leaving the German club in a strong position.

Real Madrid face significant competition. Liverpool hold a buy-back clause worth €70 million, exercisable until June 15, 2027, while Chelsea have also made enquiries. Arsenal previously tabled a €65 million bid in August, but Leverkusen rejected it.

With elite clubs circling, Quansah could become one of the most sought-after defenders in next summer’s transfer market.
