Real Madrid keep summer transfer plans on standby as Camavinga and Asencio face uncertain futures

Real Madrid are treating their summer transfer business as complete, but have deliberately left open the possibility of a late move if Eduardo Camavinga or Raul Asencio leaves the club.

The Spanish transfer window enters its final and decisive week before closing at 23:59 on 1 September, the deadline for clubs to complete new signings. Although Real Madrid’s public position is that no further recruitment is required, the situation at the club’s Valdebebas training complex is more nuanced.

According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, the club’s management and head coach Jose Mourinho have repeatedly stated that the squad is complete. Both are understood to be satisfied with the current group of players and have presented no immediate need for further additions.

Real Madrid have already strengthened their squad with six major signings during the summer. Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konate, Bernardo Silva, Ousmane Diomande, Espai and Denzel Dumfries have all arrived, while Mourinho has also been appointed as the team’s manager.

That activity has led the club to regard the transfer market as effectively closed. However, it is not considered closed in an absolute or irreversible sense. Real Madrid have intentionally kept a small opening, which would only become relevant if one of their current players departs.

Camavinga and Asencio are currently the two names attracting the greatest attention as possible outgoing players. Neither has shown a desire to leave at this stage, with France midfielder Camavinga particularly firm in his wish to remain at Real Madrid.

Asencio, meanwhile, remains available on the market. His agent, Jorge Mendes, is working to find him a new destination, but an injury currently affecting the defender has made a transfer considerably more difficult to arrange.

That uncertainty has prompted Real Madrid to maintain what is being described as an active state of alert during the final days of the window. The club is monitoring developments closely rather than actively pursuing another signing at present.

Particular attention is being paid to central midfield and central defence, the two areas that could require reassessment if Camavinga or Asencio were to depart. Real Madrid are also prepared to consider an unexpectedly attractive offer for either player should one arrive before the deadline.

The club’s position, therefore, combines confidence in the squad with caution over the possibility of a late change. While the management and Mourinho believe the team has the necessary players, the final hours of the market could still force them to reconsider their plans if the situation surrounding Camavinga or Asencio changes.
