Real Madrid hold weeks-long talks with William Saliba over potential move

Real Madrid have initiated discussions with Arsenal centre-back William Saliba, exploring the possibility of signing the French international during the upcoming summer transfer window, according to a report by L’Équipe.

The Spanish giants are reportedly eager to strengthen their defensive options ahead of the new season and have identified Saliba as a key target.

Saliba, 24, who is of Cameroonian descent, has been in excellent form for Arsenal and has emerged as one of the most dependable defenders in the Premier League.

His commanding presence, composure on the ball, and leadership qualities have not gone unnoticed, particularly by Madrid, who are said to value him highly as they seek long-term solutions in their backline.

The report suggests that talks between Saliba’s representatives and Real Madrid have been ongoing for several weeks.

The Spanish side are expected to make an official approach in the coming months, aiming to capitalise on Arsenal’s potential vulnerability in retaining one of their top talents.

Saliba is considered a central part of Madrid’s defensive rebuild, as the club prioritises youth and stability in the wake of a challenging season.

Injuries have taken a toll on Madrid’s defensive corps, with David Alaba and Éder Militão suffering long-term setbacks, while Dani Carvajal has also missed large portions of the campaign due to recurring fitness issues.

These absences have exposed the club’s reliance on an ageing and injury-prone defence, prompting the urgency to secure reinforcements.

Real Madrid view Saliba not only as a technical upgrade but also as a player capable of leading their defensive line for years to come.
