Real Madrid door remains open for Achraf Hakimi amid Paris St-Germain contract uncertainty

Achraf Hakimi’s future has become a subject of speculation in France as Real Madrid assess their options at right-back, potentially setting up one of the most intriguing transfer stories of the coming window.

Real Madrid’s situation on the right remains unresolved, with Federico Valverde continuing to operate out of position. Questions also remain over the performances of Trent Alexander-Arnold and new arrival Denzel Dumfries.

Those doubts have been fuelled by reports that Hakimi has rejected an offer from Paris St-Germain to extend his contract beyond 2029.

Italian journalist and football commentator Pierpaolo Matrone told Defensa Central that Hakimi’s representatives had cooled Paris St-Germain’s enthusiasm for a new agreement.

“Hakimi’s entourage has calmed Paris St-Germain’s enthusiasm about the renewal,” Matrone said. “They believe there is still enough time to deal with this issue, especially since the player’s last contract renewal took place only two years ago.”

He added: “This cautious position inevitably leaves some questions unanswered about the future. Real Madrid are monitoring the situation from a distance. Hakimi, who came through the Spanish club’s academy, has never hidden his desire to wear the white shirt again one day.”

Matrone suggested the 27-year-old could be delaying a fresh contract with Paris St-Germain while waiting to see whether Real Madrid make contact.

Hakimi’s close friendship with Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has also been highlighted. The report said the France international would probably welcome the chance to play alongside Hakimi again in Madrid after the pair spent several years together at Paris St-Germain.

However, Paris St-Germain do not appear ready to allow one of their leading players to leave the Parc des Princes.

Hakimi is currently regarded as, by a clear margin, the best right-back in the world, according to the report. He left Real Madrid previously because Dani Carvajal occupied his position, but the right side remains one of the Spanish club’s most significant weaknesses and is now surrounded by renewed uncertainty.

Alexander-Arnold has yet to convince, while Dumfries does not appear to have shown enough to establish himself as a regular starter in Mourinho’s team. There are also doubts about how long Valverde can continue at right-back without creating problems similar to those that have already emerged between him and Xabi Alonso.

A future move for Hakimi therefore remains possible. The bigger question would be Paris St-Germain’s response, although relations between the two clubs have improved considerably since Florentino Perez abandoned the European Super League project.

Paris St-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi could be prepared to negotiate this time, provided the financial offer was suitable. Even so, the report stressed that all of these scenarios remain hypothetical.

“The coming months will show whether this is worth following as a serious matter, or whether it will remain merely rumours and speculation,” Matrone concluded.
