It was a dominating performance by Real Madrid in the round of 16 first leg of the Champions League against Schalke 04 this Wednesday. The Spanish club cruised to a 6-1 victory on the road, putting them in a commanding position for the quarter-finals. Real Madrid’s attacking stars were in fine form, with several players getting on the scoresheet.
Karim Benzema opened the scoring in the 13th minute, followed by a brilliant goal from Gareth Bale to make it 2-0 at halftime. Cristiano Ronaldo, after missing a few opportunities earlier in the match, added a third goal for Real Madrid. He then assisted Benzema for his second goal, extending the lead to 4-0. Gareth Bale also scored his second goal of the match, further increasing Real Madrid’s advantage.
But the onslaught didn’t stop there. Cristiano Ronaldo netted his second goal of the game to complete the Spanish team’s dominant display. Schalke 04 managed to pull one back through Huntelaar towards the end of the match, but it was merely a consolation goal. The return leg is scheduled in two weeks’ time.
