Real Madrid confirm six-year deal for Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold

Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool, with the England international agreeing a six-year contract with the Spanish giants.

The 26-year-old will leave Liverpool after the English Premier League champions accepted an offer from Real Madrid. His contract at Anfield was due to expire at the end of the season, and reports earlier this month indicated that he had already agreed terms to move to the Spanish capital.

Real Madrid formally announced the deal on Friday afternoon. Alexander-Arnold’s contract will run from 1 June 2025 until 30 June 2031, bringing to an end his senior career with Liverpool, the club where he came through the academy.

“Real Madrid CF and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement that will keep Trent Alexander-Arnold at our club for the next six seasons, from June 1, 2025, to June 30, 2031,” Madrid stated.

The move takes Alexander-Arnold to a club that has won the Champions League 15 times, although Real Madrid’s announcement focused on the honours the defender collected during his time with Liverpool.

“The 26-year-old English international joins our team after winning nine titles with Liverpool: 1 Champions League, 1 Club World Cup, 1 European Super Cup, 2 Premier League titles, 1 FA Cup, 2 League Cups, and 1 FA Super Cup.

“Alexander-Arnold, who has spent his entire football career at Liverpool, has been a full England international since 2018, with whom he has played in two World Cups (2018 and 2022) and one European Championship (2024).

“On an individual level, he has been named in the FIFA FIFPro World 11 once (2020), in the UEFA Champions League Team of the Season twice (2018/19 and 2021/22), and in the Premier League All-Star Team three times (2018/19, 2019/20, and 2021/22). He was also named the Premier League’s Young Player of the Year in 2019/20,” added the Spanish giants.

Alexander-Arnold joined Liverpool’s academy as a youngster and spent his entire football career with the club before completing his move to Madrid. During that period, he was part of Liverpool teams that won nine major honours, including the Champions League and two Premier League titles.

His international career began with England in 2018. He has since represented his country at the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, as well as at the 2024 European Championship.

The new Real Madrid player will have the chance to appear for his new club at the Club World Cup later this year. The tournament will be staged in the United States and is scheduled to begin on 14 June.
