Real Betis are moving decisively in their efforts to sign highly-rated Ghanaian defender Jonas Adjetey from FC Basel, submitting a €4 million bid as they look to bolster their backline ahead of the new season.
The 21-year-old, who has been a standout performer in the Swiss Super League, is emerging as a top transfer target for the La Liga side.
Betis have identified Adjetey as a key reinforcement and have already opened negotiations with Basel, signalling serious intent with a concrete offer.
Adjetey, a Ghanaian international, joined FC Basel in August 2022 after developing through the ranks at Ghanaian club Berekum Chelsea.
His reputation has grown steadily since, with the defender making 32 league appearances this season and drawing widespread attention for his maturity, positional awareness, and consistency.
Despite Betis’s swift move, they are not alone in the race.
English Premier League side Brentford have also reportedly held initial talks with the player’s representatives in recent weeks, while Manchester United are understood to be monitoring the situation closely, adding further intrigue to the transfer battle.
Although Betis have made the first official bid, Basel are holding firm.
The Swiss club, aware of Adjetey’s growing value and with the player contracted until June 2028, are unlikely to let him go without a higher offer.
The long-term deal, extended in August 2024, places the club in a strong negotiating position as interest intensifies.
“Negotiations are active and moving in the right direction,” a source close to the talks revealed. “There’s optimism that a deal could be reached soon.”
With a current market value estimated at €4 million by Transfermarkt, Adjetey’s price could increase further if a bidding war ensues.
His age and performances have already placed him among the top-rated young Ghanaian defenders in Europe, and a move to Spain or England would mark a significant next step in his promising career.
As talks continue between Real Betis and FC Basel, all eyes remain on whether the Seville-based club can seal the deal and bring one of Ghana’s brightest defensive prospects to La Liga this summer.
