Real Betis have entered negotiations with Swiss club FC Basel over the potential signing of Ghanaian defender Jonas Adjei Adjetey, according to reports from Africasoccer.
The Spanish side has tabled a €4 million offer for the 21-year-old, who remains under contract with Basel until June 2028.
Betis Keen to Secure Rising Defensive Talent
A source within the player’s management agency, SBE Management AG, confirmed that Betis had made inquiries regarding Adjetey’s availability, signaling their intent to finalize a deal before his market value rises further.
“The two clubs have been in contact for two days,” the source told Africafoot. “Betis see him as a future top-tier defender and want to complete the transfer quickly.
While talks are still at an early stage, the progress is encouraging, particularly as Jonas is very keen on the move.”
Adjetey, valued at €4 million by Transfermarkt, has been a key figure for Basel this season, making 26 appearances across all competitions.
Since breaking into the first team last season, he has featured 38 times for the club. Before moving to Switzerland, the young defender played in the Ghana Premier League with Berekum Chelsea.
Basel Face Decision Over Defensive Prospect
While Basel have yet to respond to Betis’ offer, the Swiss side will need to weigh their options carefully, given the defender’s long-term contract and growing reputation.
As the summer transfer window approaches, further developments are expected as both clubs look to reach an agreement.
