Real Betis coach Pellegrini hails Amrabat

Real Betis coach Manuel Pellegrini has praised Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat for his impressive performances this season, describing the Atlas Lions star as a major addition to the Andalusian side.

Speaking during a press conference, the experienced Chilean tactician revealed that the club will delay making a final decision regarding Amrabat’s future until the end of the season as negotiations continue with Turkish giants Fenerbahçe, who still hold the player’s contract until 2028.

Pellegrini highlighted Amrabat’s importance in midfield, particularly in a position Betis struggled to strengthen following the departures of Guido Rodríguez and Jonny Cardozo.

“Sofyan has contributed greatly to the team in the defensive midfield position,” Pellegrini said.

“We will wait until the end of the season to discuss potential changes, but there is no doubt that Sofyan has been a major asset in a very important position within the team.”

Amrabat has gradually become one of Pellegrini’s trusted players whenever fully fit, thanks to his physical presence, tactical discipline and ability to protect the backline.

The Moroccan international has made 21 official appearances for Real Betis this season and scored one goal despite enduring a difficult campaign interrupted by a serious ankle injury and his participation at the recent Africa Cup of Nations.

His performances since returning to action have reportedly convinced many within the club of his value, with growing expectations that Betis could attempt to keep him beyond the current season.

Amrabat’s future, however, remains tied to ongoing discussions with Fenerbahçe, where the midfielder remains under contract until 2028.

The former Fiorentina and Manchester United midfielder continues to attract attention for his consistent displays, with Pellegrini clearly viewing him as an important figure in Betis’ midfield setup moving forward.
