‘Ready to die for him’ – Yan Diomande embraces Mourinho challenge at Real Madrid

Yan Diomande has vowed to give everything for Jose Mourinho as he begins his bid to establish himself in Real Madrid’s starting XI following his blockbuster move from RB Leipzig.

The 19-year-old completed his transfer to the Spanish giants last month in a deal that could eventually rise to £120 million (€140m) if all add-ons are activated. Leipzig secured a huge return on their investment after paying €20m for the Ivory Coast international just 12 months earlier.

Diomande endured a limited role during pre-season but made his full debut off the bench in Real Madrid’s season-opening victory over Espanyol.

Despite competition from established stars including Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior and Arda Guler, the teenager is determined to force his way into Mourinho’s plans.

“There’s no bigger club than Real Madrid. They spent a lot of money on me, but I don’t feel any pressure. Why should I be afraid? I’m going to do what I can on the pitch, and God will do the rest.”

Mourinho’s early influence

Diomande revealed that Mourinho’s personal approach has already made a strong impression on him, particularly after the Portuguese coach woke up early to speak with him.

“Mourinho got up at 5 a.m. to talk to me. That means I’m important. When Real Madrid calls you, you can’t say no, so I said, ‘If they want me, I’ll be there’.”

The youngster believes Mourinho is the ideal coach to oversee his development as he adapts to the demands and expectations of one of the world’s biggest clubs.

“I’m happy to work with him because he’s the best. I can learn a lot from him; he’s the right coach to continue my development.”

‘I’m ready to die for him’

Rather than being intimidated by the competition for places, Diomande sees the challenge as an opportunity to prove he belongs at the highest level.

His commitment to Mourinho is already clear, with the teenager making an emphatic declaration about his willingness to sacrifice for the manager.

“I’m ready to die for him.”

With Real Madrid having invested heavily in his potential, Diomande now faces the task of translating that faith into consistent performances. His immediate objective will be to earn Mourinho’s trust and turn his promising start into a regular place in the starting XI.
