RC Lens Faces Financial Pressure but Coach Kombouaré Retains Support
Despite showing signs of revival on the pitch, RC Lens continues to grapple with serious financial difficulties off it. The Artois-based club is once again under scrutiny from the DNCG, French football’s financial watchdog, which has demanded a €4 million injection to secure the club’s stability.
As of now, the funds have not been delivered, raising concerns about Lens’s ability to strengthen their squad during the ongoing transfer window. According to Azerbaijani media outlet Sportinfo, a critical meeting was recently held by club president Hafiz Mammadov to address the situation.
While the outcome of the meeting remains somewhat opaque, reports suggest that coach Antoine Kombouaré has received full backing from Mammadov despite the club’s current recruitment freeze. Kombouaré, who has been instrumental in helping Lens regain form on the pitch, appears to have nothing immediate to fear regarding his position.
However, the future of long-serving president Gervais Martel is reportedly uncertain. Speculation is mounting over possible changes in the club’s upper management, indicating potential shifts in the organization’s structure.
Lens’s situation highlights the ongoing challenges faced by French clubs navigating financial regulations while trying to compete at the highest level. The club’s supporters remain hopeful that stability can be restored soon, allowing the team to continue its sporting progress without off-field distractions.
