Kombouaré Responds to Touzghar’s AFCON Accusations
RC Lens manager Antoine Kombouaré has responded to accusations made by Yoann Touzghar, who claimed the club pressured him not to join Tunisia for the upcoming 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
Touzghar, who holds dual nationality, had earlier suggested that Lens discouraged his participation in the tournament, implying that it led to his omission from the final squad.
However, Kombouaré, speaking to L’Équipe, refuted the claims:
“I have the fault of being honest. He took a sentence out of context. But he’s a key player I’m counting on. Right now, he only wants one thing: to leave. So he’s going to find all the problems on earth. I only ask one question: in the end, what are his real intentions?”
Despite the club’s apparent reluctance, Touzghar could have chosen to join the Tunisian national team. Why he didn’t take that step remains unanswered — a question that may be addressed during his scheduled press conference in Tunisia this Friday.
The 28-year-old striker’s situation adds another layer of complexity to Lens’ current campaign, as both player and club appear to be heading for a separation.
