Lens Defender Ahmed Kantari Handed Three-Match Ban for Dangerous Tackle
Racing Club de Lens defender Ahmed Kantari has been handed a three-match suspension following a reckless challenge during his side’s Ligue 1 encounter with Stade de Reims on 30 August.
The Moroccan international was sanctioned by the French Professional Football League’s (LFP) disciplinary committee on Thursday after a violent tackle on Reims forward Nicolas De Préville. The incident, which occurred during a tense match at Stade Bollaert-Delelis, drew widespread criticism and has now resulted in a firm disciplinary response.
Kantari will miss Lens’ upcoming fixtures against Rennes, Paris Saint-Germain, and Toulouse. The ban will officially begin on Tuesday, ruling the 29-year-old out of contention for three crucial league clashes.
The central defender, known for his physical style of play, has been a regular presence in the Lens backline. His absence presents a challenge for head coach Antoine Kombouaré as the club looks to gain ground in the early part of the season.
Kantari is expected to return to the squad for Lens’ match against Caen on the following Sunday, once his suspension has been served in full.
The decision underlines the LFP’s continued commitment to player safety and disciplinary standards across Ligue 1. It also sends a strong message against dangerous play, as the league seeks to maintain the integrity and competitive spirit of French football.
